AAPI Capital Hill Fellowship Program

Have you ever been interested in learning how health care and policy-making intersects? We are proud to announce that AAPI is initiating a nonpartisan four-week Capitol Hill Fellowship program this fall, providing two MSRF and/or YPS members with a stipend of $1,000 each to cover living expenses in Washington, D.C. The fellowship will enable recipients to work in a congressional office for one month and learn how a Member of Con...gress engages the public, decides how to vote on bills, and how staff members play an integral role as advisers to federal lawmakers. Not only will you be able to learn the nuts and bolts of Congress, you will be able to conduct legislative research and understand the legislative and political ramifications of policies affecting physicians.

To apply for the fellowship, you must be a member of either the MSRF or YPS, have solid academic credentials and be armed with strong writing skills. Chosen candidates should be personable, able to resolve conflicts amicably, and be willing to perform the tasks necessary to help a congressional office function cohesively. Candidates will also be required to conduct legislative research on several AAPI initiatives and present final written products to their Member of Congress. The AAPI Fellows will be regularly monitored by our Director of Legislative Affairs, Mr. Dino Teppara. Fellows will be briefed on Capitol Hill protocols and are required to submit the research papers they write to Mr. Teppara prior to submitting them to their Members of Congress. The Fellowships will begin this Fall 2010 for one month. Interested candidates may apply by e-mailing a short cover letter explaining why they are interested in the Fellowship program and why they are ideal candidates for selection along with their resume to info@aapiusa.net.

We look forward to making this program a great success!

Sincerely,
