AAPI 29th Annual Convention

 

The AAPI-YPS board would like to invite you to the 29th Annual American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) Convention at the Manhattan Hilton Hotel on the historic Avenue of the Americas in New York City, June 22th-26th, 2011.

This year's MSRF and YPS convention will feature regal evening entertainment at New York City's famous 230 Fifth featuring New York's largest outdoor rooftop garden lounge. Our Saturday night gala will be at the famous Cipriani Wall Street for more dinner, drinks and dancing. We will also have a spectacular fashion show from India's leading designers and models, yoga/meditation sessions from renowned instructors, an exciting singles mixer, and more!

As always, there will be engaging daytime sessions with well-known speakers as well as an incredible CME series.

Jasbina Ahluwalia is a former attorney and happily married, second-generation, Indian-American Relationship Expert, Matchmaker and Radio Show Host. She is pursuing her entrepreneurial passion as the Founder and President of Intersections Match, the only Elite Personalized Matchmaking & Dating Coaching Firm in the country serving Selective Singles of South Asian descent Nationwide in the U.S. Jasbina is also the host of Intersections Talk Radio, a monthly holistic lifestyle show, focused on our continual evolution into the best versions of our authentic selves, conversations with published authors/experts on relationships and health and wellness. Jasbina was one of the finalists in OPRAHS search for a new TV Host. She has anchored relationship Q&As for NetIP, NetSAP Boston, Indus Women Leaders, Cornell India Association, Indo-American Arts Council and serves as a Relationship Expert in the upscale Washington Masala, India Currents and ABCDLady.com.

Our expert panel of two physicians who are taking two very different approaches to integrating technology in the health field will appeal to you whether you are the cerebral type or the hands on type!

 

Speaker: Dr. Joseph Kim, M.D., M.P.H.

Dr. Kim is the President of Medical Communications Media, Inc. (MCM). In that role, he provides strategic leadership to ensure high quality, innovative educational solutions. Dr. Kim is also a digital entrepreneur and technologist who frequently speaks about mobile health and social media. He established NonClinicalJobs.com to provide resources for physicians interested in non-clinical careers. He founded MedicineandTechnology.com, MedicalSmartphones.com, and MobileHealthComputing.com. Dr. Kim holds a BS in Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MD from the University of Arkansas College of Medicine, and MPH from the University of Massachusetts  Amherst School of Public Health. He will be speaking about recent advances in the use of mobile technology and social media in the health care setting. As mobile devices become ubiquitous, they are being utilized by physicians and patients to improve care delivery. Mobile devices are revolutionizing telemedicine and mobile apps are providing a variety of useful resources for both patients and providers. Health care professionals are also finding innovative ways to leverage social media to improve medical education and patient care.

 

Speaker: Dr. Ashutosh Tewari
Dr. Tewari is the Ronald P. Lynch Professor of Urology, Director of the Lefrak Center of Robotic Surgery, and Director of the Institute for Prostate Cancer, all at Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC) in New York. He heads the Robotic Surgery Program, for Urology, ENT, OBGYN and General Surgery and is also the Program Director for the Robotic Prostatectomy Fellowship. Dr. Tewari is one of the world’s leading experts in the fields of prostate cancer and robotics, having performed over 3,500 robotic prostatectomies during the course of his career. Dr. Tewari trained in Medicine at GSVM Medical College in India. He did his early postgraduate urologic training at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in India and then a Transplant fellowship at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital in the UK. He then emigrated to the US where he graduated from two urologic oncology fellowships (University of California, San Francisco & University of Florida) before undergoing a Urology residency at the Vattikuti Institute of Urology, Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He will speak about advances in robotics and how it is revolutionizing different disciplines of surgery.

The Young Physician Section (YPS) caters to the physicians who are within their first 5 years after completion of clinical training. As an organization, AAPI is committed to increasing young physicians' knowledge base, enhancing their careers, and empowering them to play a key role in healthcare advocacy and community service. AAPI has a range of activities from CME to practice management resources and community service opportunities that are geared towards young physicians.
